There's another day skipped. I'm already on the downward spiral, and it's only been a week.
So what did I do yesterday and today? Yesterday was my day off this week, so I spent it with friends! I finally went aaaaaaaaaaaalllllllllllllll the way up to Inwood to see Scott's apartment. It was worth it! (not that I doubted it). He has a really nice, spacious place, and he's paying a very reasonable amount for rent. I should definitely consider living up there. It's the second to last stop on the A, but the A runs express for about 100 blocks in UWS/Harlem/Morningside, so it's not too bad. We had a nice pizza lunch, and then played a round of Bananagrams. I'd never played before, and was soundly beaten by Scott, who is a word-game master. I always felt like I should be a word-game master, since I really like words. But I'm not. Hmm....I'd never really given that any thought. I should try more.
Anyway! Scott, Caity (the birthday girl who is finally 21!) and I all trekked back downtown to Union Square so that I could go to my meeting/interview with Aaron Thompson and his boss Adam, the General Manager at Daryl Roth Theatre. I wasn't sure that it was actually going to be an interview when I walked in, but it became quickly clear that interview it was! Despite not being especially prepared, nor knowing what I was interviewing for specifically, I think it went really well! There's a chance that I'll be able to come on board with DRT or Daryl Roth Theatrical Management sometime soon. At the very least, Adam's dog Boomer liked me, and spent the interview with his head in my lap.
After that, Scott, Caity, I and met Elyssa at the Beauty Bar for manicures and a drink. Well, Scott and Caity got manicures (Scott has very shiny nails!). The real highlight of the evening, however, was dinner. Anthony Bourdain's restaurant Les Halles on 29th and Park. A totally unpretentious, pricey but not stupid-expensive French restaurant. One of the best meals I'VE EVER HAD. EVER. Baked brie on a baguette with honey and cracked black pepper as an appetizer, the most perfectly tender steak I've ever eaten (flatiron) with bearnaise (we all had a different cut of steak), outstanding fries, and CREME BRULEE that was the way all creme brulee should be. I will be going back as soon as I can afford it. Literally, top 5 meal of my life (aside from family cooking, of course).
Oh, by the way. Federal jury duty?!?!?! Really? Now? You can't wait until I'm an established real person who can actually do his civic duty and enjoy it? You have to do it NOW? I mean, I think I managed to get out of it, since I most definitely am not a resident of Western PA anymore, but we'll see. The only positive is that the TWO WEEK jury term wouldn't start until the day after my gig with Atlantic ends. So if they force me to do it, I won't be able to start working anywhere else, but at least I wouldn't have to leave my duties with 10 x 25 early.
Tomorrow is out kick-off event, with a special invitation-only show and a big party afterwards. I'm excited! It also means that I probably won't blog tomorrow, but we'll see.
Keep calm and carry on!
