A New Home!

Ok, yes, I'm a terrible blogger. I freely acknowledge this. But I have news! Yes, it's late news, but better late than never I say! I have (drum roll please) found an apartment to sublet! It'll be bittersweet to leave Hoboken, because I've had such a great time with Matt and Court, and have been truly touched by Matt's generosity in letting me stay on his floor for free, but at the same time it will be nice to have a place to call my own.

Finally, the great craigslist search has yielded results. Starting on Thursday, I'll be living in Hamilton Heights, Manhattan, at 140th & Broadway. The apartment is literally HUGE. I mean, gargantuan. By NYC standards, its palatial, particularly for how low the price is. It's not the most desirable neighborhood in the city, but it's not too terrible either. I'll be 3 blocks from the 1 line at 137th Street, and just 5 stops from 96th Street where I can transfer to the 2 or 3 express trains. Should be in mid-town in 30 minutes and Chelsea in 40. A little longer than my commute now, but actually less walking, so there are trade-offs, I suppose.

I'll post pictures of the apartment as soon as I move in, but for a basic description, it's on the parlor level of an older apartment building on the corner (and by parlor level, I mean it's on the first floor of the building, but 140 goes up a hill east of Broadway, so the first floor is a story above street level). Upon walking in the front door, you face a long hallway. The first door on the right is Steve's bedroom. Steve will be my flatmate, but my understanding is that I'll hardly ever see him since he runs a restaurant downtown and isn't around a lot. The next door to the right is the spacious bathroom, and after that (again to the right) is the kitchen. The kitchen is pretty big and seems to be well-stocked. And it has a dishwasher! After the kitchen is my bedroom, which is gigantic. It has a 4-poster queen sized bed, a huge dresser, a desk, a bookshelf, and should have an armoire in it by the time I move in. Finally, at the back of the apartment is the enormous living/dining room with a big dining room table, a couch, some chairs, and a tv, with windows overlooking Broadway. It's quite a lot of space, and I have a feeling that I'm going to be very spoiled by it because I'll probably be hard-pressed to find an apartment this big and this inexpensive when I'm looking for a full-year lease later in the summer.

In other news, I'm in the final week of 10 x 25, which is really hard for me to believe. We've done 36 performances so far, and just have 6 left. It's been so much fun, and really formative and educational. It's also really reinforced my feeling that Atlantic is my theatrical home. No matter where I end up in my career, it started with Atlantic Theater Company and I'll always have a special place in my heart for it. And as quickly as this all began and is ending, I'm about ready to jump into my next job with The Magdalene. While I think my life is going to involve a lot of unpredictability and bouncing around for the next few months (or years), it's going to be pretty fun, and I already feel more qualified to do what I want to do than I did 5 weeks ago.

I'll post another update one I'm all settled into my new apartment, and I'll try to get some pictures up.

Until then, keep calm and carry on.
