SDCC, Here I Come!

You'll have to forgive me, because in just under 12 hours I'm leaving for San Diego Comic-Con, and I'm so thrilled that I might do backflips - which would be a shame because I would have to skip the trip due to being in traction.  We'll all have to settle for a quick blog post - trust me, its safer for everyone this way.

Anyway, SDCC!  I'm stoked as hell, because I've been wanting to go since I first found out what it was - a place where you can let your nerd flag fly high and proud, and bask in the glory of fandoms unfettered by normal social constraints.  The reason I'm finally taking the plunge is actually work related - The Chair (that film/TV project for which I am an associate producer) has a panel at the Con on Friday at 1:30pm in the Marriott (check us out if you're around!).  I'm essentially going to be a stage manager (though that wasn't what anyone else called it - parsing a theatrical lexicon into the world of film is not always 1:1) for the panel, running the A/V, checking levels, making sure everyone is where they need to be, and other general last-minute, day-of-the-show logistics.  In other words, the fun stuff.

Seriously, I live for that kind of thing.  Just a few weeks ago I was the Safety Coordinator Volunteer for Pogopalooza XI in at the Pittsburgh Three Rivers Regatta, courtesy of Nick Ryan's and Nick McClintock's XPogo, LLC.  It involved a lot of standing in the sun, hurry-up-and-wait-and-then-carry-this-heavy-dirty-thing-to-the-place kind of stuff, and was a real blast.  I'm just not wired to be sitting behind a desk - on my feet managing some sort of show or event is where I'm fed.

So the short time I'll be doing that kind of work for The Chair should be great fun (and the panel we have planned will be really swell), but in addition I get about a day and a half to just roam the convention center and geek out to my heart's content!  I'm so ready.  The only downside is that my ANOVOS Battlestar Galactica Commander's Duty Blues uniform isn't ready yet.  No joke.

I'll try to update this blog for those who are interested in following along, as well as posting some pictures and updates to facebook, twitter, and instagram.  I'm also running a blog on my official company website, www.diclaudioproductions.com/blog, which will feature posts in which I'll try not to sound like an utter fanboy.  I'll let you be the judge if I succeed.

Keep calm and carry on, my friends!
